Chapter 4:

Mary knew that she had got lucky. There were a hundred ways the whole scene would have gone wrong. She knew that being with an alien would come at a price and yet she had never been so sure of anything else in her life.

Every time she would look at Augusts, she would know how lucky she had been in finding him. They had met out of the blues and she had only Melinda to thank for it. It’s been 2 years since they had been dating and even the thought of being without Augustus made her weep.

This is often what love does to you. It makes you strong and vulnerable at the same time. When you are truly in love with someone, you cherish every moment spent with them and this often ends up becoming memories which sail you through the hard times.

Yes, they have had their bad moments in the two years they were together. They have been through a lot of ups and downs. There were times when they were on the verge of losing their mind. They had an almost-breakup, but the good thing about love is you know when and how to sail back to the one person who holds your heart because you are stronger than your biggest weakness.

Mary knew before she started dating Augustus that it was not going to be the smoothest ride. Given the kind of background he had and the fact that he was away from the only family he may ever have, he would have his own nightmares to battle.

Augusts had told Mary that he wasn't on his best behavior all the time. Just like the locket guided him and showed him how to channelize his power in an apt manner, there have been a lot of times when the locket also made it hard for him to live a normal life.

He would introspect everything about his life and he would feel that life had become futile enough that he won’t be able to do anything with it. All the pain and the fact that nothing in life seemed to have any meaning made him depressed.

Anyone who has dated someone with depression would know that it doesn’t come easy. When they are down and feel all alone, they are not likely to open up to anyone and loving such people can be really hard, however, you should stick to them because that is what love is about.

Mary had always been the kind of person who was happy go lucky. Despite the string of bad luck in the field of dating before meeting Augustus, she had never given up on life. Augusts came like a breath of fresh air, but he often suffered from an inner crisis and he didn’t know the best way to deal with the mess.

Over the time, the two of them managed to come closer. Despite the odd fights and a few misunderstandings here and there, nothing could separate them and they always found a way back to each other.
